Today is International #YouthDay!
Inequality and oral health is an important topic for youth engagement for global action. Tooth loss is more common amongst those with less education and lower income. Encouraging health promoting behaviours such as healthy eating, mealtime routines and oral hygiene practices in carers (parents/grandparents) can improve oral health for young people from low socio-economic backgrounds.
Oral health literacy has been highlighted by the World Health Organisation as a key factor to increase knowledge and health promoting behaviours. The Dental Health Foundation provides advice and information to reduce health inequalities by helping people to develop personal skills such as good oral hygiene and to empower them in positive health behaviours to make healthier lifestyle choices.
