On World Autism AwarenessDay, let's recognise the importance of oral health for autistic people. It's crucial to raise awareness about their unique dental needs, from sensory sensitivities to communication challenges, navigating dental care can be complex.
Traditional oral health advice and oral care plans may need to be adjusted to meet the practical needs of each individual.
There are many types of toothbrushes and toothpastes on the market that may be helpful when developing an oral health routine.
Non-foaming and unflavoured toothpastes are available online and in some pharmacies. You may need to try a few to find one that works best for you.
A specialised toothbrush such as the Dr. Barman's Superbrush has three sides which allow you to brush all tooth surfaces at the same time. These are available to purchase from our online shop here.

Our key message is to follow the 3 P’s for a healthy mouth and body:
Practice Good Oral Hygiene - brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. Visit your dentist at least once a year.
Protect Your Mouth – use a fluoride toothpaste when brushing and develop a healthy diet to help reduce acid attacks.
Prevent Decay - reduce the number of sugary foods and drinks you consume daily. Add fruit and vegetables to your diet and limit sugar snacking. Water and milk are the most tooth-friendly drinks.
