18 October 2024

Menopause

Today is World Menopause Day!

Did you know that menopause can impact your oral health? According to the 2023 Senior Oral Health and Menopause Report by Delta Dental, most women over 50 are unaware of the connection between menopause and oral health. In fact, 70% of women in this age group experience oral symptoms without realising they are linked to menopause.

Here are some oral health issues that can be associated with menopause:

  • Reduced saliva production
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased risk of tooth decay
  • Higher susceptibility to gum disease
  • Changes in jawbone density
  • Receding gums

If you're noticing any of these symptoms or have other concerns, be sure to consult your dental team.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial. Brush your teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. Don’t forget to clean between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes, and schedule regular dental checkups to keep your mouth healthy.
